When it’s time to rewire your classic Chevy you have a lot of options. If your car was built before 1962, then the 9301HK or the 9302HK would be the product of choice. Things become more difficult when you are working with the 1963 to 1977 Muscle Cars. While nowhere near as sophisticated as today’s cars, these vehicles were quite sophisticated for their time with printed circuit boards for the instrument cluster and loads of power accessories. The original wiring layout for these vehicles had 4 basic harnesses and several overlay harnesses. The dash harness included the fuse panel and the bulkhead connector which allowed the engine harness, the forward lamp harness, and the rear harness to plug into each other. The obvious advantage of this type of system is the ability to replace a defective harness without rewiring the entire vehicle.

There are several companies marketing
rewire kits for your car, but before you jump
into one of these, consider the problems
you will be facing. No aftermarket kit (and
this includes those from CALIFORNIA
REWIRE) are designed to replace every wire
in your vehicle. Be prepared for hours of
splicing as you attempt to connect your
printed circuit connectors for the dash, the
special connectors for the heater and a/c
system, the radio, clock, and other
accessories. Specialty bulb sockets and
harness connectors used on the OEM
harness will mean that you will need to buy
extra parts and re-use your old connectors
which are not available separately. If your
car has power locks and windows, you will
have to fabricate the overlay harness and
get the right connectors to hook up your
switches and the special relays they require.
All this results in a new harness with lots of
old parts and splices - not at good solution
at all.

At CALIFORNIA REWIRE we have overcome
this problem with our new upgrade fuse
panels. These are not complete rewire kits,
but are true replacements for your old
glass-barrel type fuse panel. Why
re-engineer your car? Replacing the fuse
panel will allow you to clean up all the
add-on wiring you have accumulated over
the years. Most importantly, you can still
use all of your factory harnesses for the
engine or lamps and accessories. For
installations on 1963-1967 vehicles, use
the 9610FP. 1968 through 1977 vehicles
use the 9611FP. Factory replacement
harness for most vehicles are available.
These are completely new reproductions of
the OEM Harnesses, and are a direct plug in
for your vehicle.
